VICTORIA — Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for most of British Columbia, with temperatures forecast to hit the low and mid 30s across the province this week.
It indicates that warmer than average weather is expected to start Friday and last through Tuesday.
Temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees in the interior, 30 degrees in the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky, and 20 degrees on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
The province’s Department of Public Safety says in a statement that no heat warning is expected, but residents should be prepared.
It warns people to watch for symptoms, including dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting, confusion, headache, rapid breathing and heartbeat, extreme thirst and decreased urination.
The ministry says local authorities and First Nations are ready to activate their heating plans, which may include setting up cooling centres, distributing bottled water and carrying out wellness checks.
